HK Day 2 - Heritage 1881, Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade (Arome, Tsim Sha Tsui Clock Tower & Avenue of Stars), Harbour City (Super Star Seafood Restaurant & Godiva), The Peak (The Peak Galleria & Mak's Noodle)

2 August '13

HK Day 2 will be a super long-ass post, don't get bored ok? ;)

On my 2nd day in Hong Kong we had breakfast in.. Okay, let's call it Cha Chaan Teng. Since I don't know how to read mandarin hehe.

And if you don't know what cha chaan teng is, here I will help you from the trouble to look it up on wiki ;) Cha chaan teng: meaning tea restaurant, is commonly found in Greater China, including particularly Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and parts of Guangdong. They are known for eclectic and affordable menus, which include many dishes from Hong Kong cuisine and Hong Kong-style Western cuisine.

It was 9.30 in the morning, and I think we ordered from the Breakfast Set Menu book (7.00am-11.30am). The set menu includes a drink, you can choose between these three: Hong Kong-style milk tea/coffee/lemon tea, all of them usually served hot, but you can ask for the cold one by adding HKD 2.

Hong Kong-style Milk Tea

Hong Kong-style milk tea is a beverage originating from Hong Kong consisting of black tea with evaporated milk or condensed milk. They didn't put any sugar in the tea, so you can put it according to your taste. The milk tea here is mildly bitter and has this acid aftertaste. Don't really like it.

The Macaroni Soup w/ Ham and Sausage (HKD 26) was a bit bland, but quite good. I like the sausage, so tasty and the salted veggies add crunchy texture to the soup.

Toast, Eggs, Baked Beans - HKD 23
Bread + Noodle (HKD 24)
Bread + Noodle (HKD 27)

I prefer the Macaroni Soup w/ Ham & Sausage than the Rice Vermicelli Soup, because the Rice Vermicelli Soup tastes really bland so we didn't really like it. The toast and sandwich are quite okay, the bread is pillowy and the ham is also quite nice.

HERITAGE 1881
After that we took a bus and passed through these high end boutiques such as Luis Vuitton, Hermes, Gucci, Prada, etc. And we got out of the bus near The Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel in Canton Road. After 5 mins walk, we arrived at Heritage 1881. Heritage 1881 is the Former Marine Police Headquarter Compound, but now the site features a shopping mall, a heritage hotel, and an exhibition hall.

STAR FERRY - AROME - TSIM SHA TSUI CLOCK TOWER - AVENUE OF STARS
After taking photos and everything we walk to the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry Concourse,

bought some Chicken Pie (HKD 12) at Arome, it tastes pretty good.

visit the Visitor Centre of the Hongkong Tourism Board to take the brochures and ask where we can buy Disneyland tickets. So they told us to walk along the street to the Avenue of Stars, and buy it in the Avenue of Stars Shop. If we buy 2 tickets there, we can get 1 Disneyland umbrella, and if we buy 4 we can get 2 umbrellas. We also passed the TST Clock Tower on our way to Avenue of Stars.

HARBOUR CITY (SUPER STAR SEAFOOD RESTAURANT - GODIVA)
After we bought our tickets, we went to Harbour City (three malls in one: Ocean Terminal, Ocean Centre and Gateway Arcade), the mall is near the Star Ferry, maybe 2-3 mins?

We got tired and hungry, but we don't know where to eat, and after looking around the mall for a bit we ended up at Super Star Seafood Restaurant for our super late lunch.

Pan-fried Turnip Cake
Sheng Jian Bao (Pan-fried Meat & Vegetables Bun)
Steamed Chicken Feet
Stir Fried Flat Rice Noodles w/ Beef
Vegetables
Pork Steamed Buns
Steamed Shrimp Dumplings
Total: HKD 471.9
Expensive, mediocre food.

And look what we found! hehe :)

Dark Chocolate Banana - HKD 42

Can taste the banana, but the chocolate flavour isn't strong enough and too much ice!

Chocolate Soft Serve - HKD 39
This one is worth the penny! The ice cream is soft and smooth, and the chocolate tastes so rich and yummy (you better eat it fast, because it melts easily).

THE PEAK (THE PEAK GALLERIA - MAK'S NOODLE)
Then we took the Star Ferry to Central. For the Star Ferry fare you can click here

After that we took Bus 15 to Victoria Peak, and we arrived 1 hour later.
Went to The Peak Galleria and saw Mak's Noodle! Mak's Noodle is a famous wanton noodle shop in Hong Kong, even Anthony Bourdain has tried it.

Wonton Noodles in Soup (HKD 36)
Beef Brisket Noodles in Soup (HKD 40)
Dumpling Soup - HKD 40

It's quite pricey for that small portion, but the good thing is the wonton noodles taste good. Tasty broth with springy noodles, and good wontons (thin wonton skin and crunchy, plump shrimp). The beef brisket in beef brisket noodles was sweet and tender. The Dumpling in Dumpling Soup contains shrimp, pork, mushroom, fungus & bamboo shoot. And since the name is pork dumpling (look at the bottom of the menu), so I thought that the Dumpling is more like a pork dumpling than a shrimp dumpling or at least half pork half shrimp, but I didn't taste the pork at all (I didn't even saw it huh).

Then we went to the rooftop of The Peak Galleria, it was raining heavily (with cold winds) that night. But we still went outside to see Hong Kong view, luckily after 1 hour, the rain and fog disappeared.

For more information about how to get here (The Peak) and about Peak Tower (Sky Terrace 428) you can read it on Hong Kong Extras, The Peak and Discover Hongkong.
